Burberry AW10 in 3D
Fashionistas in Tokyo, Dubai, New York, L.A., and Paris gathered on Tuesday to witness a fashion (and techology) world first: Burberry streamed its AW 2010 women’s runway show live in 3D, becoming the first major fashion house to do so. In addition, they live-streamed the show on live.burberry.com, as well as some 70 other sites, including Sky News, CNN and The Times.
Leo Fitzpatrick at Half Gallery
With a launch in the middle of New York fashion week, Leo Fitzpatrick shows collages of book inserts, both humorous and dark, at the Half Gallery until March 12th.
Fashion Loves Hanuk

Hanuk, a former fashion designer turned photographer, opens his first exhibition at Bellhaus, featuring New York’s fashion-ites in various stares of revelry.
Self Service 1-31

Launched 15 years ago, world-renowned fashion magazine Self Service are opening their entire archives with the help of Idea Books. The exhibition/pop-up shop will be housed in the front room at the St Martin’s Lane hotel, London from February 18th-25th. All issues can be purchased, priced according to availability, as well as limited-edition signed posters by David Sims, Terry Richardson, and Roger Deckker.
Partners & Spade Books

Check out two new additions to Partners & Spade′s ongoing publishing program of concept photo books. Opening Ceremony at Ace Hotel

Upping the cool factor of the already hip Ace Hotel, Opening Ceremony opened their second New York outpost on Valentine’s Day. The space will include a special collection of traveled minded-essentials, as well as seasonal offerings from designers such as Band of Outsiders, Proenza Schouler, Philip Lim and Alexander Wang. Along with the Project No. 8’s anti-souvenir shop, and hot-spot restaurant The Breslin, Opening Ceremony joins the Ace posse like the cherry on top.
Hixsept – Drift

With backgrounds as graffiti artists, founders and designers Hëx and Hept meld grafic design, art and clothing in their Hixsept collections. Their newest collection entitled ‘Drift’ gets our top marks for its parkas, chinos and button downs in muted tones, as well as the photography by New York based photographer Jeremy Liebman.
Damien Hirst – End of an Era

Damien Hirst arrives stateside with an exhibition of new paintings and sculptures at New York’s Gagosian Gallery. Having recently announced the end of the various series for which he has become known over the last twenty years, including the spot, spin and butterfly paintings, Hirst makes reference to the seachange in his own work with the exhibition’s title. ‘End of An Era’ runs until the 6th of March, 2010.
Erwin Olaf

The Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf’s latest photo and video series, “Hotel” and “Dawn & Dusk,” opened last week at New York’s Hasted Hunt Kraeutler. ‘Dawn & Dusk’ mixes colour and black-and-white photography (a departure for Olaf); while ‘Hotel’ sees melancholic images of doll-like nude women in noirish hotel rooms.

Stephen J. Shanabrook for Comme des Garcons SHIRT

Comme des Garcons SHIRT are famed for their quiky ad campaigns, and this season is no exception. They have collaborated with artist Stephen J. Shanabrook, using images from his series ‘Paper Surgeries’. Playing on magazines, fashion and photography, the images (made in collaboration with Veronika Georgieva) blur the lines between beauty and ugliness. His artworks are also due to appear on the actual shirts from the collection.

HYPER – Denis Darzacq

HYPER has opened at The Laurence Miller Gallery in New York - an exhibition of 15 photographs by the French photographer Denis Darzacq. Darzacq brings street dancers to the shopping aisles of garish supermarkets in Paris and Rouen and asks them to perform leaps and jumps - capturing them mid flight. Denis Darzacq has exhibited extensively in Europe and Australia over the past ten years. He has worked on music videos and feature films since 1985, collaborated with Agnes B on fashion catalogs, and has three monographs published.

Inventory Magazine

Inventory Magazine is the new project from Ryan Willms, founder of the discontinued and highly rated h(y)r collective online magazine. Inventory will also exist as on online magazine, but a hard copy will be available too. With a strong influence from Japan, their first issue takes a look at the people behind Yuketen, Nigel Cabourn and Engineered Garments which thrive overseas and are now becoming just as popular in the western world. Editorial features include a look at our favourite parkas for winter and Nom de Guerre’s fall collection.
Snob collection SS10

Check out the new season’s offerings by Comme des Garcons Junya Watanabe MAN, inspired by the classic English gentleman. The line features plenty of plaids and hunting caps as well as collaborations with Levi’s and The North Face amongst others.
Nigel Peake

We’re big fans of the work of Edinburgh-based artist/illustrator Nigel Peake whose work came to our attention via the latest Hermes Objets SS10 catalogue. Also published last year was “Sheds”; further example of his fantastical, daydreamy and incredibly detailed drawings that take you to a child-like world of make-believe and ingenuity.
Stuart Haygarth at Haunch of Venison

Mayfair gallery, Haunch of Venison, is staging its first exhibition of British artist and designer Stuart Haygarth with an exhibition called ‘Found.’ The show examines his ongoing relationship with abandoned objects and his fascination with taxonomy through a series of new furniture works, lamps and chandeliers.

Oooga Booga at The Swiss Institute

Ooga Booga is an independent book/art store in LA’s Chinatown, which has been championing artists and small pulishers since its opening in 2004. For two and a half months they will be taking up residence in The Reading Room at The Swiss Institute in Soho NYC with a selection of 300 + titles from self to professionally published.

Week-end by Alex Prager

Currently on show at Yancy Richardson Gallery NYC is Week-end, an exhibition of new work by LA-based artist Alex Prager. Inspired by her native city, Prager’s dramatic portraits of female characters are reminiscent of the work of Guy Bourdin and David Lynch; infused with a dark sense of foreboding. This is the third installment in the photographic trilogy, and will simultaneously be shown at the M + B Gallery in Los Angeles.

It’s already the end of the world

A new exhibition opened this week at the Haunch of Venison New York by Brooklyn-based artist Brian Alfred. The show features 14 paintings, collage works and video that all reflect the connection that people or places have to power, influence and conflict. A 336 page catalogue accompanies the exhibition.
